Population ageing is increasing demand for long-term care (LTC) across Asia and the Pacific, with growing numbers of people experiencing functional limitations and dependency. This trend is expected to place increasing pressure on public budgets, social protection systems and households. Reliable LTC expenditure information is therefore essential to understand how much is being spent, who is paying, what services and care settings are being financed, and how expenditure is evolving over time. Such information can help policymakers identify financing gaps and inform fiscal planning, resource allocation, benefit design and expenditure management across health and social care.
At this webinar, you will:
Establish a common understanding of LTC expenditure, including the distinction between LTC-health and LTC-social expenditure and the boundaries of formal expenditure accounting.
Learn how countries operationalize LTC expenditure tracking using existing health accounts, insurance, administrative and government financial data to track LTC expenditure.
Explore how expenditure tracking supports policy and spending decisions, including fiscal planning and budgeting, resource allocation, benefit design and purchasing.
Identify potential areas for countries to strengthen LTC expenditure tracking.
Who should attend
Ministries of Health, health financing and national health accounts teams, social protection agencies, development partners, academe and researchers.
